Third Party Payer Reimbursement
Broad health care reimbursement expertise allows Wey West Legal to provide counsel on all aspects of such reimbursement, both as applicable to the individual provider and consistent with the industry and industry segment. Emily Wey has direct experience with health care payment gained from working in-house for both health care providers and large private payers. Although managed care contracting historically has revolved around private health plan contracts, Emily has experience with the entire range of payers with whom a health care provider may interact both contractually and out of network, including:
- Medicare Advantage plans
- Medicaid managed care plans
- Behavioral health organizations
- Specialty payers (dental, vision)
- PBMs and PSAOs
- Provider-sponsored plans, ACOs, and CINs
- TriCare administrators
- Veterans Administration
Payer Relations Management
By partnering with health care providers’ business executives, contract managers, and revenue cycle teams, Emily Wey can help establish favorable payer contracts, assist with implementation of the payer billing relationship, appeal underpayments and denials, and manage revenue flow. She has extensive experience in navigating credit balances, overpayment refunds, and state law escheat issues, and in working with consultants to resolve such issues as payment relationships mature. Should any payer relationship hit rocky ground, Emily is able to leverage relationships with payer dispute litigators at other firms as needed, to manage disputes from the first denial or repricing through appeal, arbitration, and litigation.
Should a health care provider choose to remain out of network (or a payer relation terminate), Emily has extensive experience navigating the complexities of health care reimbursement in that arena as well, and can support and manage out-of-network payment disputes, including navigation of state surprise billing laws and the federal No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022.
